CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—USA Field Hockey's
High Performance Centers have selected rising Harvard senior Kim
Goh and former Crimson assistant coach Jen Long among the top
athletes to represent their regions at the Women's National
Championship, being held this week at the University of
Maryland.
The Women's National Championship features the most elite
athletes in the country, including collegiate all-stars, current
National Team members and members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic
Women's Field Hockey Team. Goh, a midfielder and three-year
starter, was named to the New England team. Long, who served as a
Harvard assistant each of the last two seasons, was also named to
the New England squad.
The eight-day showcase event that began on June 1 features eight
regions playing in five matches, including the final on June 8.
Regions are led by some of the top college coaches in the nation.
Athletes will compete for the championship and vie for a spot on
the National Squad roster and the opportunity to represent the U.S.
on the international stage.
U.S. coach Lee Bodimeade will announce athletes to the National
and Development Squads following the championship match on June 8.
On June 23, Bodimeade will select 16 women to represent the United
States at the Olympic Games, subject to approval from the United
States Olympic Committee board of directors.
The following athletes have been selected to represent New
England: Chapin Duke (Dedham, Mass.), Lindsay Bennett (Kansas,
Mo.), Virgynia Muma (North Falmouth, Mass.), Kate Murphy (Millbury,
Mass.), Kim Goh (Burtonsville, Md.), Kaleigh Fitzpatrick (Dedham,
Mass.), Katie Carlson (Watertown, Mass.), Sarah Hospodar (St.
Davids, Pa.), Kara Mackintire (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Jen Long
(Doylestown, Pa.), Abby Bascetta (Granby, Conn.), Kellie Joyce
(South Pomfret, Vt.), Melyssa Woods (Durham, N.H.), Marisa Dunn
(Ashburnham, Mass.), Casey Pohlmeyer (Millersville, Md.), Katalin
Orban (Plaistow, N.H.), Amy Swensen (Grantville, Pa.) and Lauren
Crandall (Doylestown, Pa.).
