IRVINE, Calif. – Nine Harvard swimmers swam at the 2013 U.S. Open at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center July 30-Aug. 3. Crimson swimmers gained four second swims, including two from Oliver Lee, one by Eric Ronda and another by Courtney Otto.
On the women's side, Courtney Otto swam the 200 butterfly and advanced to the 'C' final after clocking in at 2:14.56. She improved to 2:13.57 in the finals to garner 19th place.
Kendall Crawford narrowly missed a spot in the 200 backstroke finals. Her preliminary time of 2:18.29 ranked 30th.
Ronda, one of seven Harvard men's swimmers at the event, turned in the most impressive performance of the week, a fifth-place showing in the 200 breaststroke final. After qualifying fifth with a time of 2:13.60, the incoming freshman finished in the same spot in 2:13.21. Scott Weltz, who finished fifth in the event at the 2012 London Olympics, won in a U.S. Open meet-record time of 2:10.36.l
Oliver Lee advanced to the finals of the 50 and 100 freestyle races. He finished 13th in the 50 with a 22.96 time and completed the 100 in 50.80 for 24th place.
