PRINCETON, N.J. – The Harvard men's water polo team dropped a pair of matches on the final day of the Princeton Invitational. The Crimson lost to Johns Hopkins, 11-9, and George Washington, 11-6, to finish 1-3 at the tournament.
In the opening game, the Crimson raced out to a 6-4 lead at the half. The Blue Jays came out fast after intermission netting four goals in the third quarter to even the score at eight.
Harvard was unable to outlast the offensive efforts of Johns Hopkins as the Blue Jays outscored the Crimson 7-4 in the second half to grab the win.
Freshman Viktor Wrobel paced the offense will three goals and two assists while Ben Zepfel contributed two. Rookie Dan Stevens chipped in a goal and led the way with four steals. Colin Woolway tallied six saves.
In the fourth game of the weekend, Harvard headed into the final minutes of the game trailing George Washington by three. The Crimson was unable to form momentum on the offensive side, finding the back of the net only once in the fourth. Harvard fell to George Washington, 11-6.
Six Crimson scored a goal against GW; Robbie Fluegge, Zepfel, John Holland-McCowan, Stevens, Blake Lee and Noah Harrison. Harrison also chipped in four steals.
In the net, Woolway made seven saves and dished out two assists and Jimmy Field stopped three shots for Harvard.
Harvard travels to Fordham, Iona and St. Francis (N.Y.) next weekend to begin CWPA division play.
