CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard's men's and women's cross country teams will head to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania this Saturday to compete in the 41st Annual Paul Short Invitational, presented by Asics and Schuylkill Valley Sports, at Lehigh University. The men's college gold 8K race is slated for an 11 a.m. start, with the women's college gold 6K race following at 11:45 a.m.

The Paul Short Invitational is one of the largest cross country meets in the nation, featuring 14 races over the course of the day, ranging from the top collegiate programs through high school JV races that conclude the race. A total of 5,630 runners from 409 colleges and high schools are expected to be in attendance.

A number of nationally ranked collegiate teams will provide solid competition for the Crimson. For the men, No. 9 Villanova, No. 13 Iona and No. 20 Princeton will be in action, as well as five nationally-ranked Division II teams and four from the Division III ranks. In the most recent USTFCCCA Division I Regional Polls, the Harvard men come in sixth in the Northeast Region.

On the women's side, No. 5 Georgetown, No. 6 Florida State and No. 13 Villanova will be in action. Two nationally-ranked Division II squads will also be on the course, joined by seven ranked Division II teams. Harvard's women moved up two spots in this week's Northeast region poll, standing in sixth headed into the weekend.

Both Crimson put together stellar performances at last year's Paul Short Invitational, with the men taking fourth and the women claiming seventh out of 47 teams. James Leakos '14 posted the second-fastest time in course history to win the men's event, while Emily Reese '14 was the top women's finisher in 12th.

Harvard is coming off two good showings at the Coast-to-Coast Battle of Beantown last weekend. Led by a 13th-place finish by Thomas Purnell, the men took sixth out of 21 teams, while the women claimed 8th out of 21 squads.

The Paul Short Invitational will be the final tune-up for the Crimson before the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational on October 17.
