CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After a successful opening weekend to 2014-15, the Harvard women's swimming and diving team is geared up to host yet another Ivy League dual meet, this time as the Columbia Lions come to Blodgett Pool Friday. The Crimson (2-0, 2-0 Ivy) and Lions (0-2, 0-2 Ivy) will get off the blocks at 11 a.m.
About Harvard
The Crimson cruised to a 2-0 start to the year versus Cornell and Dartmouth at Blodgett last weekend, as Harvard used eight event wins – and five one-two finishes – to sweep the tri-meet. The defending Ivy League champions defeated the Big Red, 156-144, and the Big Green, 239-61. Junior backstroker Kendall Crawford finished first in three events on the day, including the opening 200 medley relay alongside Danielle Lee, Stephanie Ferrell and Victoria Chan. The four Crimson outswam the opposition by finishing in 1:43.98, just ahead of fellow Harvard teammates Kirstina Li, Geordie Enoch, Daniela Johnson and Sarah Sumner. Crawford also swept the backstroke events, taking the 100 back in 55.73 and the 200 back in 2:01.61. The Greenville, South Carolina, native also placed third in the 100 fly as Harvard's top finisher in that event.
About Columbia
The Lions enter Friday's showdown with an 0-2 mark, falling to Penn (215-85) and Yale (193-107) to open the season. Columbia enjoyed its best regular season in school history in 2013-14, swimming to a 7-0 mark in Ivy dual meets, claiming the regular season crown from the Crimson. Mikaila Gaffey, who was an Ivy champion in the 100 breast, and Gabbie Toback, who set the program record in the 100 back twice last season, return to help the Lions.
