ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 18 Harvard men's water polo team took on Johns Hopkins Saturday at the CWPA Eastern Championships from Annapolis, Maryland and fell 10-5.
The Blue Jays jumped out to an early lead over Harvard in the first quarter picking up three goals, while the Crimson was held scoreless.
In the second quarter the Crimson continued to struggle on the offensive end, only scoring one goal, but held Johns Hopkins to just two. Reigning Rookie of the Year, Colin Chiapello, scored the Crimson's only goal with 1:34 left, bringing the score to 5-1 heading into halftime.
The Crimson started to battle back in the third period, finding the back of the net twice, while limiting Johns Hopkins to two goals as well. Sophomore Dan Stevens fired home an unassisted goal 32 seconds into the quarter to cut the Blue Jays lead down to 5-2. Johns Hopkins responded quickly with two scores of its own to move ahead 7-2. With seven seconds left in the third, junior Blake Lee was able to take one back for the Crimson.
Down 7-3, Harvard tried to mount a fourth-quarter comeback but fell short. Lee and Stevens were able to score, but when the final whistle blew the Crimson had lost, 10-5.
