Providence, R.I. - The 18th ranked Harvard men's water polo team completed day one of the Bruno Fall Classic with two loses. In the first match of the day the Crimson fell late to Santa Clara and in the second match of the day No. 8 UC-Irvine jumped out early to defeat Harvard.
Sophomore Joey Colton, led the way for Harvard against Santa Clara with two goals and six assists. Heading into the second half the Crimson held a three goal lead but the Broncos fought back to win 12-11. Blake Lee scored a team-high three goals and freshman Harry Tafur added two of his own.
UC-Irvine built an early, 13-3, lead in the first half. The Crimson was able to slow down the Anteater offense in the second half but could not overcome the 10-goal deficit, eventually losing 8-20. Colton again starred for Harvard, scoring four goals. Ben Zepfel scored three goals and reigning CWPA Northern Division Freshman of the Week Colin Chiapello, added one more goal.
The Crimson will be back in action tomorrow with more Bruno Fall Classic action. Harvard takes on Connecticut College in an early morning match and then are back in the pool for an afternoon clash against No. 14 Navy.
