CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Playing in the comforts of home for the first time this season, the Harvard men's water polo team split a pair of CWPA Northern Division contests at Blodgett Pool, falling first to St. Francis, 12-8, before dominating Iona in the nightcap, 10-4.

On the day, Joey Colton and Ben Zepfel provided the offensive spark, sending in six and four scores, respectively. Freshman Colin Chiapello added three goals, while Dan Stevens chipped in two and Harry Tafur, Blake Lee and Viktor Wrobel all added a score each. In goal, Colin Woolway had a fine day, especially versus Iona where the junior denied 10 shots by the Gaels.

In the first game of the afternoon, SFU started out with much of the momentum earning a 4-1 lead in the early going, but things evened out towards the end of the first half. After Chiapello sent in a pair of scores to cut the lead to 4-3, the Terriers finished the first with a 6-4 advantage.

Harvard tied things up at 7-7 in the fourth frame on another Chiapello score, but a 5-1 run to close things out gave the Terriers the 12-8 win.

In the Crimson's second game of the day, the combination of a solid transition and even stingier defense lifted Harvard to victory against Iona. Thanks to scores from Stevens and Colton, the Crimson took a 2-1 lead after a slow first period. But Harvard ramped it up on both the attack and on defense beginning in the second frame, starting with 4-1 to end the half.

Colton tallied a pair of goals in the third to extend the lead to 8-3, all the while Woolway was making save after save, shutting down anything the Gaels threw at him offensively. Two more Colton scores in the early stages of the final stanza lifted Harvard to its 10-4 win and a 1-1 record in CWPA Northern Division play.

Harvard returns to the pool to face Fordham and Brown with 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. starts, respectively, on Sunday.
