Men's Water Polo Splits CWPA Northern Division Road Contests

Harvard split a pair of CWPA Northern Division contests to move to 5-3 in conference play this season (Gil Talbot).

PROVIDENCE, R.I. / NEW LONDON, Conn. – Harvard's men's water polo team split a pair of Collegiate Water Polo Association Northern Division road contests, trumping Connecticut College in a 16-7 decision to start the day before falling at No. 12 Brown in the finale, 16-12.

Harvard started the day in New London by cruising to a 16-7 win at Connecticut College. The Crimson sprinted to a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter as Ben Zepfel led the attack with a pair of goals. Harvard poured on the attack in the second frame as Viktor Wrobel and Colin Chiapello each netted a pair of goals while Harvard's defense held firm, holding the Camels scoreless to claim a 12-2 lead at the half.

Wrobel netted his game and season-high fourth goals of the match to start the third quarter before Connor Denney came on in net in the final frame as Harvard coasted to a 16-7 victory.

The Crimson saw its four game win-streak snapped as its hot attack cooled off at Brown in the nightcap. Despite holding a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, Harvard's offense slowed over the next two frames while Brown's caught fire, outscoring the Crimson 9-1 to take a 12-5 lead after the end of the third. Harvard's attack came alive in the fourth as it rallied for seven goals, but it was too little too late as Harvard fell by a final tally of 16-12.

Zepfel, Joey Colton, Blake Lee and Grayson Judge each netted a hat trick to pace the attack. Colton and Lee also handed out a pair of helpers.

Harvard stands at 7-7 on the season and claims a 5-3 record in CWPA Northern play. The Crimson will return to action Friday as it heads to cross-town rival MIT for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
