SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 19 Harvard men's water polo squad broke through in the final period of its match-up against San Jose State to down the Spartans, 10-8, in its opening game of The Rodeo Tournament.
With Harvard squaring off against San Jose State for the first time, the Crimson grabbed a 2-0 advantage after the first period as Noah Harrison netted the opening goals of the game. Colin Chiapello and Joey Colton each posted a goal in the second period, but the Spartans tied the game up at 4-4 heading into the half.
Harvard and San Jose State exchanged a pair of goals in the third period as Harrison posted his team-high third score of the contest while Blake Lee netted his first of the night.
With the game tied at eight at the start of the fourth frame, Harvard outscored San Jose State, 4-2, as Colton, Nick Bunn, Chiapello and Dan Stevens paced the Crimson attack. Anthony Ridgley held firm in net, making 11 saves in total as Harvard edged out San Jose State, 10-8.
The Crimson improved to 10-8 on the season and will square off against No. 16 Santa Clara and Fresno Pacific on Saturday and will close out the tournament with matches against No. 13 Air Force and No. 10 UC Davis on Sunday.
