Harvard extended its winning streak to seven games, a season-high (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 12 men's water polo swept a pair of College Water Polo Northern Division contests to commence its final weekend at Blodgett Pool this season. The Crimson edged St. Francis Brooklyn, 14-11, in the opener before downing Fordham on senior night, 12-7. The Crimson improve to 16-8 overall, including an 8-3 mark in CWPA Northern Division contests.
With the pair of wins, The Friends of Water Polo Head Coach Ted Minnis moved into sole possession for second all-time in head coaching wins with 93.
In the opener against St. Francis, Harvard used a fourth period comeback to down the Terriers, 14-11, in a back-and-fourth contest. Ben Zepfel netted the opening goal on a breakaway, beating the goalie on an assist from Dan Stevens. St. Francis netted the equalizer mid-way through the first period and went ahead a minute later. Stevens capitalized on a Terrier ejection and snapped the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the first period.
Blake Lee put Harvard ahead in the second period two minutes into the second frame, but the Terriers tied the game up at and went ahead shortly after. Noah Harrion led a furious charge to close out the second period, roping a goal into the lower-corner while Nick Bunn delivered another equalizer shortly after on a one-timer from Harrison. The Terriers responded on their next possession, but Harrison found the back of the net to knot it up once more. St. Francis would have the final say as it claimed a 7-6 lead after the end of the first half.
Zepfel opened the second half by slamming a skip shot home to tie the game before Joey Colton, the reigning CWPA Northern Divison Player of the Week, delivered the go-ahead goal. The Terriers tied it at eight mid-way through the period, but Lee struck again with a laser from deep to put Harvard ahead by one. The Terriers tied the game and went ahead in the final seconds of the period to hold a 10-9 lead.
Colin Chiapello deked out the keeper on a counter attack to tie it up a minute into the final period, but St. Francis went ahead once again as Ilija Djuretic scored the Terriers sixth man-up goal and his game-leading fifth goal of the contest. Lee tallied his third goal of the game before Harrison netted back-to-back goals to give Harvard the lead for good, firing a rocket into the bottom right corner and smoking a shot past the keeper. Stevens added an insurance goal in the final minutes of the game as Harvard secured the 14-11 victory.

The opening frame featured back-and-fourth scoring between Harvard and Fordham as Colton fired home a pair of goals to account for Harvard's scoring in the opening period.
The Crimson attack came alive in the third period as Zepfel delivered the go-ahead goal mid-way through the second period on a dish from Chiapello. Harry Tafur tipped a shot past the keeper on an assist from Robbie Flugge, while Colin Woolway dished out a pair of cross-pool assists to Viktor Wrobel and Lee as Harvard tallied four unanswered goals and claimed a 6-3 lead at the half.
Lee continued to have the hot hand, snapping back-to-back goals to start the scoring for the Crimson in the third period, capitalizing on a man-up situation and slamming in a penalty shot. The Crimson defense held Fordham scoreless for the second-straight quarter as Woolway stonewalled the Rams attack, preserving the Crimson's 8-3 lead after the end of the third frame.
Fordham cut Harvard's lead back to four to open the final period but Zepfel fired home back-to-back goals to put Harvrad up by six, giving Harvard its largest lead of the contest. The Rams netted three-straight goals before Nathan Ondracek snuck behind the Rams defense and cashed in a one-timer from Flugge. Harvard's seniors closed out their night as Christopher Miao netted the final goal for Harvard while Connor Denney came on in net to secure the 12-7 win.
Harvard will host Iona in its home finale tomorrow at 3 p.m.
