Providence, R.I. - No. 12 men's water polo swept it's opening games of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Northern Division Championship and will play for the Northern Division title for the third-straight season. The Crimson trounced Connecticut College, 20-9, in the opener before downing St. Francis Brooklyn, 13-8, to advance to the championship game.
The Crimson were paced by an all-around team effort against Connecticut College in the opener as four different players netted hat tricks and seven players netted multi-goal performances.
In the first period, Harvard tallied its highest single-period scoring output of the season, notching 10 goals to take a 10-3 lead. Joey Colton and Ben Zepfel each netted a hat trick to lead Harvard's attack while Noah Harrison dished out four assists to open the game. Harvard continued the onslaught into the second period to take a 15-6 lead at the half as Grant Harvary tallied a pair of goals. Harvey completed the hat trick in the third period while Viktor Wrobel netted a hat trick of his own in the second half, as Harvard cruised to a 20-9 victory, advancing to the semifinals.
Zepfel continued his steady attack in the semifinal match against the Terriers, netting the opening pair of goals in the game, while Harrison and Nick Bunn each chipped in with a goal apiece as Harvard took a 4-1 lead. Zepfel snapped his third goal in the second period while Blake Lee scorched three-straight goals, giving Harvard a 9-6 lead after the third period. Harvard added three insurance goals in the final frame to secure the 13-8 victory and advanced to the championship game for the third-straight season.
Colin Woolway made five saves in net to shut down the Camels attack in the opener and CWPA Northern Division Player of the Week, Anthony Ridgley, registered a nine-save effort in the finale against the Terriers.
The Crimson improved to 19-8 on the season and pushed its win streak to 10 games, matching the program record set in 2010.
Harvard will take on Brown for the Northern Division title Sunday at noon.
