Amaker Named Finalist for Ben Jobe Award

Amaker's Crimson have won five consecutive Ivy titles (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Tommy Amaker, The Thomas G. Stemberg '71 Family Endowed Coach for Harvard Men's Basketball, has been named one of 16 finalists for the 2015 Ben Jobe Award, marking the fifth straight year he has been recognized among the finalists.

The Ben Jobe Award is presented annually to the top minority coach in Div. I men's basketball. The recipient of the 2015 award will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 3 in Indianapolis, site of the 2015 men's division I basketball championship.

Amaker has led Harvard to a fifth straight Ivy League championship, becoming just the second program in Ancient Eight history to win at least five successive titles (Penn 1970-75, 1978-82). The Crimson has also posted at least 20 wins in each of the last six seasons, again matching Penn (1969-75) for the longest streak in conference history.

Harvard boasts the Ivy League's top defense, ranking first in the Ancient Eight in points allowed (57.5), second in opponent field goal percentage (38.9), and third in rebounds (34.8).

Three student-athletes were recognized on the All-Ivy League teams, including second-team selection Steve Moundou-Missi who was also named the conference's defensive player of the year. Wesley Saunders earned his third straight selection to the first team, joining Don Flemming '82 as only the second student-athlete in program history to be named to the All-Ivy League first team in three straight years, while Siyani Chambers received a second team nod.

Harvard and Yale earned a share of the 2015 Ivy League championship with identical 11-3 conference marks, and will play for a third time tomorrow at The Palestra in a one-game playoff for the right to represent the Ancient Eight in the NCAA tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. live on the American Sports Network and ESPN3.
