David Ng posted a 2-0 decision in the fifth-place bout (Robert Preston).
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior David Ng finished fifth at the 2015 EIWA Championships, hosted by Lehigh, earning an automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Championships.
Ng, who went 4-2 on the weekend at EIWAs, helping Harvard finish with 24 team points, good for 14th place at the tournament.
In the third-round consolation bout against Princeton's Ray O'Donnell, Ng opened the day by scoring a takedown early in the first period to go up, 2-0. Later in the period, Ng earned a pin at 2:16, to advance to the consolation semifinals against Lehigh's Douglas Vollaro.
Vollaro held off Ng in the next round, 3-1, pushing Ng to the fifth-place bout.
Ng faced Garrett Ryan of Columbia with fifth-place on the line, a rematch of an opening round bout from Friday (Ryan won, 3-1). In Saturday's match, Ng led, 1-0, for most of the match and used nearly two minutes in riding time to hold on for a 2-0 victory, taking fifth place.
The NCAA will announce the at-large qualifiers for the upcoming NCAA Championships for each weight class Wednesday, March 11 at 6 p.m. The NCAA Championships will be held March 19-21 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
