Harvard was one of three NCAA Division I tournament teams celebrated for academic excellence (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's basketball team has been honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) with the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the 2014-15 season, while Charlie Anastasi '15, Alex Nesbitt '15, Agunwa Okolie and Patrick Steeves have been recognized as members of the NABC Honors Court.
Harvard, which won a fifth-straight Ivy League championship in 2014-15 and reached the NCAA tournament for a fourth-consecutive year, was one of just three NCAA Division I programs to play in March Madness and be recognized with the Team Academic Excellence Award. Additionally, Harvard, Columbia and Yale were the only members of the Ivy League to earn the distinction, with the Crimson's four individual honorees marking the most in the conference.
The Crimson will return 11 letterwinners to the court this upcoming season after posting a 22-8 overall record and going 11-3 in Ancient Eight play.
The Team Academic Excellence Award celebrates programs across all divisions that achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2014-15 academic year. The Honors Court, meanwhile, recognizes student-athletes who are either juniors or seniors academically, and have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
