Harvard Downs Santa Clara in Final Game of Princeton Invitational

Harvard snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Broncos (Gil Talbot).

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Harvard men's water polo downed Santa Clara, 16-12, in its final game of the Princeton Invitational for its second win of the season, snapping a seven-game losing streak to the Broncos.

Harard edged the Broncos 4-3 after the first quarter. Joey Colton scored two goals in the opening frame while Nick Bunn and Blake Lee each found the back of the net.

Ben Zepfel caught on fire in the second quarter, netting a hat trick, while Bunn and Lee struck again as Harvard held a 9-6 lead at the half. 

Santa Clara fought back in the third quarter to close Harvard's lead to 11-9, but the Crimson held firm in the final quarter as five different players scored to seal the 16-12 victory.

Noah Harrison was key on defense, making five steals and was equally effective on the offensive end as he recording a team-high three assists and scored two goals. Anthony Ridgley held the Bronco attack at bay, making 11 saves in net. Zepfel and Bunn each netted four goals on the day.

Prior to the Santa Clara game, Harvard fell 21-18 to Diablo Valley in an exhibition in the morning.

The Crimson will host a trio of CWPA northern division opponents next weekend. Harvard will take on Brown at 2:30 p.m. and Connecticut College at 6 p.m. on Sept. 19 before hosting MIT at 1 p.m. on Sept. 20.
