Blake Lee netted a game-high five goals for Harvard (Z. Williamson).
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Harvard's men's water polo team earned its first win of the season behind a five goal effort from Blake Lee to down Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 12-10, in its final contest of the Brown Invite.
Harvard and Claremont split 2-2 after the first quarter, but the Crimson took a 5-2 lead into the half as Lee scored a pair of goals. Claremont came back in the third quarter to make it an 8-7 game, but Harvard held strong in the final quarter.
The Crimson found itself down a man in the fourth, but Nick Bunn had a huge block and steal out of 2-meters to keep Claremont from tying the game. Lee continued his assault on the Stags, netting another pair of goals, including a slick last-minute goal to preserve the lead and secure the Crimson's first victory of the season.
Ben Zepfel was a force in the 2-meter spot, scoring three goals, while drawing almost every ejection for the Crimson. Anthony Ridgley was impressive between the pipes for the Crimson, recording 10 saves.
Harvard returns to action Sept. 12 against the University of the Pacific at noon and will face the host, Princeton, at 6 p.m. to start the Princeton Invite.
