RIO DE JANEIRO – Harvard field hockey assistant coach Katie Bam scored five goals during the preliminary rounds of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, helping lead the Americans to a quarterfinal matchup against Germany Monday at 11:30 a.m. EST.

Team USA went 4-1 during the preliminary round to advance to the quarterfinal stage. After a pair of 2-1 wins over Argentina and Australia, the red, white and blue exploded for a 6-1 victory against Japan in its third match of the Olympics, guided by a hat trick from Bam. She followed that performance up with two more tallies in USA's next game, a 3-0 triumph over India.

Despite a 2-1 loss to Great Britain in the final match of the preliminary round, Bam and the Americans earned a spot in the quarterfinal round set to begin Monday in Rio.
