CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's water polo team has announced that it will donate $5 per goal it scores this weekend to assist relief efforts related to Hurricane Harvey.
The team made the declaration on Twitter Wednesday evening, encouraging other teams around the country to follow suit. Fellow Ivy League schools Brown and Princeton immediately committed to the effort, as did Wagner. Brown, Harvard and Wagner are all slated to compete this weekend in the Bruno Classic, co-hosted by the Bears and Crimson, while Princeton is headed to the Navy Invitational.
Harvard water polo encourages teams from all sports to join the effort. Harvard's football and volleyball programs have joined the effort, matching the water polo team's goals pledge.
Teams from around the country are encouraged to join the effort on Twitter and donate to a Harvey relief charity of their choice. The Harvard water polo program will donate its proceeds to the American Red Cross and a local Houston food bank.
