CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three first-year members of the Harvard men's ice hockey team, forwards
Alex Laferriere and
Sean Farrell, and defenseman
John Fusco were selected in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
Laferriere was the first Crimson player taken in the draft, selected in the third round (83rd overall) by the Los Angeles Kings. He is the first Harvard player taken by the Kings in the draft since Kevin Sneddon '92 (1989). A native of Chatham, N.J., Laferriere played for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL during the 2019-20 season, leading the team and finishing in the league in scoring with 45 points (19 goals, 26 assists) in 42 games played.
In the next round, first-year
Sean Farrell was selected 124th overall (4th round) by the Montreal Canadiens. A native of Hopkinton, Mass., Farrell played for the Chicago Steel of the USHL in 2019-20, recording 56 points (15 goals, 41 assists) in 44 games to place seventh in the USHL in scoring, leading the league in assists.
Fusco was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 7
th round (189
th overall), of the draft. A four-year letterwinner and team captain at Dexter Southfield during the 2019-20 season, Fusco recorded 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists). A native of Westwood, Mass., he is the son of Mark Fusco '83, who won the 1983 Hobey Baker Award with the Crimson.
