GREENWOOD, Ind. – Senior Duncan Rheingans-Yoo (men's fencing) and senior Bente van Vlijmen (field hockey) earned 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Third Team honors, the organization announced today (June 19). For both Rheingans-Yoo and van Vlijmen, this is the first time they have been named Academic All-Americans.
To be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-America, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials, have reached their sophomore year and have at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
A native of Columbia, Md., Rheingans-Yoo posted a 75-10 record on the season with a touch differential of plus-177. A Winter Academic All-Ivy selection, Rheingans-Yoo was also tabbed First-Team All-Ivy League honors and finished third overall in foil. A 2020 Ivy League Champion he posted a perfect record at the Beanpot and against NYU and qualified for the NCAA Championships.Â
One of the greatest players in program history, Bente van Vlijmen was a 2019 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I First Team All-American, becoming the first four-time All-American in the history of Harvard field hockey. A Fall Academic All-Ivy honoree, van Vlijmen was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year and All-Ivy League First Team, capping off her four-year career with 32 points (13 goals, six assists) as a senior captain in 2019. A native of Zeist, The Netherlands, she reached 45 goals, and 104 points over 69 games played for the Crimson, moving into sole possession of second place on Harvard's all-time goals and points list.Â
