CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the college sailing circuit's headline event of the weekend (Oct. 16-17), Harvard took fifth place at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship, finishing the 18-team regatta with 280 points.
Yale earned the victory with 193 points, overtaking both Dartmouth and Brown down the stretch as winds gusted on the Charles.
For the Crimson, senior
Emma Kaneti and sophomore crewmate
Marleigh Belsley found success in the A-division, ranking third with 107 points across the 18 races. The performance included four first-place finishes, three of which came in succession in races four through six.
"This weekend had pretty challenging conditions," Kaneti said. "The wind was coming from a direction where it was super shifty, so we were really happy to come out with three races in a row and have some comebacks when we weren't in front."
In the B-division,
Sarah Burn and
Corinne Lee were the primary racers for the Crimson, sailing in races one through 16 before reserves
Marbella Marlo and
Juliana Ruggieri entered for the regatta's final set. The two pairings combined to place 10th with 173 points overall.
In other weekend action, Harvard finished sixth out of 17 teams at the Savin Hill Invitational, and fourth among 15 competitors at the Captain Hurst Bowl.
At Dartmouth, senior Eli Burns joined with both
Tyler Masuyama and
Pomaika'i Ogata to place fourth in the A-division at the Captain Hurst Bowl, while
Jonas Nelle and
Carolyn Wang were the first to the finish line three times while claiming fifth in the top division at Boston College's Savin Hill Invitational.
Up Next: The Crimson will race again next weekend, Oct. 23-24, competing at the Oberg Trophy, Coed Atlantic Coast Tournament and the Yale Women's Regatta.
