Noah Hodge has earned NWPC Defensive Player of the Week while first-year
Andrej Basica received NWPC Rookie of the Week, the Northeast Water Polo Conference announced today, Oct. 6.
A native of San Juan Capistrano, California, Hodge totaled 42 saves, three assists, and four steals in Harvard's 2-1 weekend to begin NWPC conference play. Hodge began the weekend with a stellar effort to take down No. 9 Princeton 10-8, stopping 14 of 22 shots. He then notched 16 saves in the 12-10 defeat to St. Francis, while also scoring his first goal of the season. Hodge closed the weekend out with 12 saves in the win over Iona, giving him a .553 SV% across the three games. This is Hodge's third time receiving the award this season, including back-to-back weeks.
A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Basica tallied six goals and three steals on the road this past weekend. Basica got on the scoresheet with a goal in the win over No. 9 Princeton, before leading the Crimson with a hat trick in the defeat to St. Francis. He finished out the weekend with a two goal, two steal effort in the 18-14 win over Iona. This is the second rookie of the week honor for Basica as he continues to lead the Crimson in goals, with 29 on the season.
Harvard (11-2, 2-1 NWPC) will host a pair of conference games at Blodgett Pool this weekend, taking on Brown (8-7, 1-1 NWPC) on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 4:00 p.m. before a matchup with MIT (3-6, 1-2 NWPC) on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 12:00 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
