CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 22 Harvard University men's swimming and diving opens its 2021-22 season at Cornell University with Dartmouth College on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Ithaca College's Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium as the Crimson returns to competition for the first time in over 600 days.

What to Know
- Harvard men's swimming and diving will return to competition on Saturday for the first time since the Ivy League Championships on February 29, 2020 – a span of 622 days.
- The Crimson stands at No. 22 in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America preseason rankings. Harvard features as the only non-power five program in the CSCAA poll.
- The Crimson checks in at No. 15 in SwimSwam's first edition of Power Rankings for the 2021-22 season.
- In 2019-20, Harvard captured its fourth straight Ivy League Championship with a score of 1,439 points. The Crimson won the Ivy title for the 27th time, claiming 6-of-21 event titles at the meet.
- From 2019-20, the Crimson returns a pair of individual event winners from the Ivy League Championships in sophomore Will Grant (200 backstroke) and junior Umitcan Gures (100 butterfly). Harvard also brings back three members of its winning 800 freestyle relay team – senior Mahlon Reihman, senior Micahel Zarian, and sophomore Marcus Holmquist.
- Senior Dean Farris returns for the Crimson to compete collegiately for the first time since the 2018-19 academic year. At the 2019 NCAA Championships, Farris won both the 100 backstroke (43.66) and 100 freestyle (40.80).
- Seniors Dean Farris and Michael Zarian will serve the Crimson as captains during the 2021-22 season.
- Two classes of Harvard student-athletes will suit up for the Crimson for the first time as both the class of 2024 and class of 2025 prepare for collegiate competition for the first time.
- Sophomore David Abrahams earned a silver medal in the men's 100-meter breaststroke – SB13 at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics on Sept. 1, 2021, representing Team USA.
- Junior Umitcan Gures competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, taking fifth place in heat four of the 100-meter butterfly on July 29, 2021, representing Team Turkey. Gures also competed at the European Short Course Championships in November 2021, placing fourth in the 50 butterfly in 22.37, setting a national record for Turkey.
- This fall, first-year Arik Katz earned a spot on the 2021-22 U.S. National Team in the 1,500-meter freestyle while junior Simon Lamar claimed a spot on the 2021-22 U.S. Open Water National Team in the 10K.
- During the 2020-21 academic year, senior Jake Johnson earned 2020-21 Winter Academic All-Ivy accolades.
- Harvard holds a 56-2 lead in the all-time series with Cornell.
- The Crimson carries a 77-11 advantage in the all-time series with Dartmouth.

At the Helm
Kevin Tyrrell enters his ninth year as The Ulen-Brooks Endowed Coach for Harvard Men's Swimming & Diving in the 2021-22 season. Under Tyrrell's direction, the Crimson has captured five Ivy League championships, including four consecutive titles from 2016-17 to 2019-20. Tyrell has earned Ivy League Coach of the Year honors three times (2016-17, 2018-19, 2019-20).
