No. 12 Men’s Water Polo to Begin Postseason Run with NWPC Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 12 Harvard men's water polo team will travel to Princeton, N.J., this upcoming weekend to compete in the NWPC Championship tournament. Harvard begins with a quarterfinal tilt against Connecticut College (1-13, 0-5 NWPC) on Friday, Nov. 19 at 3:00 p.m. with the semifinals set for Saturday, Nov. 20 and the final for Sunday, Nov. 21.

What to Know
  • Harvard comes in after posting a 9-2 NWPC conference play record and 25-4 overall record in the regular season.
  • The Crimson has posted 25 wins this season, tied for the third most in program history (2001 - 25, 2016 - 27, 2019 - 29).
  • Harvard comes in at No. 12 in the CWPA Weekly National Top 20 Poll. Other NWPC teams featured include Princeton at No. 12, plus St. Francis Brooklyn and Brown receiving votes.
  • The Crimson will feature in the No. 2 seed vs. No. 7 seed matchup to begin the tournament. Princeton secured the No. 1 seed and an automatic place in the semifinals.
  • Harvard took down Connecticut College, 17-8, on Nov. 6 in its lone meeting this season.
  • The Crimson-Conn. College winner is set to face the winner of St. Francis Brooklyn vs. MIT, who also play a quarterfinal tilt on Nov. 19.
  • Harvard has played four games this season at DeNunzio Pool, posting a 4-0 record including wins over Wagner, George Washington, No. 16 Bucknell and No. 9 Princeton.
  • The Crimson will look to defend its title, after it took down Princeton, 8-7, in the 2019 NWPC Championship game.
  • Junior goalie Noah Hodge has received NWPC Defensive Player of the Week on three separate occasions this season.
  • Senior Michael Del Mundo posted a career-high six goals in Harvard's regular season meeting with Connecticut College.
At the Helm
Ted Minnis enters his 12th year as The Friends of Harvard Water Polo Head Coach in 2021-22. He led the Crimson to a historic 29-1 record in 2019, with an undefeated 27-0 mark through regular season play. Minnis was named NWPC Coach of the Year following the record-breaking season which set the program record for consecutive wins.  He holds a record of 225-117 (.658) with the men's team through 11+ seasons.

Next Up
The winner of the conference tournament will advance to the NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship with opening round games for the NCAA tournament set to begin on Saturday, Nov. 27.
