Women’s Basketball Readies for URI and BU

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Continuing non-conference action this week, the Harvard women's basketball team (1-3, 0-0 Ivy League) is set to take on Rhode Island and Boston University. The Crimson will travel to URI on Tuesday, Nov. 23 for a 6 p.m. matchup, before returning home to host BU on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. Both contests will be broadcast on ESPN+.
 
What to Know
- Harvard is 1-3 on the season after picking up its first win of the 2021-22 campaign at home on Nov. 14 against Northern Illinois. The Crimson topped the Huskies, 70-53, to move to 1-0 on home court.
- The Crimson battled Rutgers to overtime in its last contest on Friday, Nov. 19. Rutgers edged Harvard, 68-65, on its home court. Four Crimson players recorded double-digit points for the first time this season, led by junior Maggie McCarthy with 16 points.
- Three Crimson players are averaging over 10.0 points per game through four games this season, including McKenzie Forbes (14.0), Lola Mullaney (13.8) and Maggie McCarthy (10.5). Tess Sussman is just shy at 9.8ppg.
- Harvard ranks third in the Ivy League in scoring average, with 66.5 avg/g, and third in offensive rebounds with 39.8 avg/g.
- The Crimson has secured five spots in the top-25 Ivy League rankings for scoring average, led by McKenzie Forbes in sixth with 14.0 points per game. Lola Mullaney (seventh, 13.8ppg), Maggie McCarthy (14th, 10.5ppg), Tess Sussman (17th, 9.8ppg) and Harmoni Turner (19th, 9.3 ppg) round out the list for the Crimson.
- Harvard and URI have met 18 times in program history, as the Crimson holds a slight 10-8 advantage in the all-time series. The Crimson last topped the Rams, 61-58, in overtime on home court in 2019.
- Harvard leads BU 20-15 in its all-time series, enjoying a five-game win streak over the Terriers. The Crimson previously bested BU, 66-39, in Terrier territory back in 2020.

Leading the Way
The Friends of Harvard Women's Basketball Head Coach Kathy Delaney-Smith returns for her 40th season at the helm of the program. The winningest coach in Ivy League basketball history with 617 career victories, Delaney-Smith passed former Princeton head coach Pete Carril (514) for most wins by an Ancient Eight coach on either the men's or women's side during the 2013-14 season. Delaney-Smith owns a 617-421 overall record with a 360-159 mark in Ivy League play, including 12 20-win seasons, 11 Ivy titles and 15 postseason appearances.
