CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard field hockey team elected current juniors Kiley Allen, Olivia Hoover, and Ellie Shahbo as captains for the 2022 season, the team announced today (Dec. 16).

Allen, Hoover, and Shahbo are all first-time captains and had key roles in Harvard's record setting 2021 season, helping the team finish 17-2 (7-0 Ivy League). The Crimson enjoyed its most successful season to date, winning its sixth Ivy League title, reaching the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in program history and matching a program record with 17 wins on the year.

Harvard also beat its highest ranked opponent, defeating No. 2 Michigan in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

Allen has played in all 55 games in her three seasons at Harvard, recording 19 points (three goals, 13 assists) as one of the team's top midfielders. A native of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Allen bolsters a Harvard defense that was best among NCAA programs with a .44 goals against average.

Hoover has been one of Harvard's top offensive threats during her first three seasons with the Crimson, notching 21 points (nine goals, three assists) in 52 games played. A native of Collegeville, Pa., Hoover scored a pivotal goal and added an assist in Harvard's Ivy-clinching 3-1 win at Cornell on Oct. 30.

A native of Surrey, England, Shahbo had an incredible season in net for Harvard in 2021, earning NFHCA Second Team All-America honors. Shahbo led the nation in virtually every statistical goalkeeping category. An NFHCA First Team All-Northeast Region and First Team All-Ivy honoree, Shahbo had the nation's top goals-against average (0.44) and save percentage (.860), and added 10 shutouts. She finished the year with a record of 15-2.
