CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Former Harvard men's heavyweight rower Mike DiSanto '12 is scheduled to compete at the 2021 World Rowing Final Olympic Qualification Regatta with an eye set on earning a spot at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The regatta is slated to take place in Lucerne, Switzerland from May 15-17, and will feature more than 400 athletes from 49 nations.
DiSanto will team with Tom Peszek in the men's pair and will be one of 14 entries in the event. Last month, the pair secured their spot for this final qualifying regatta after racing uncontested at the Second U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Team Trials – Rowing on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey. The duo clocked in at 6:41.72.
The twosome is looking to add to their impressive resumes as DiSanto has earned a spot on the national team six previous times and placed fourth at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Peszek, meanwhile, is a 10-time national team member having rowed at the London 2012 Olympics.
Racing at the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta gets underway on Saturday, May 15, with heats and repechages for events with more than 13 entries. Sunday will feature the remaining repechages, quarterfinals and semifinals. Finals will be held on Monday. Racing gets underway at 10 a.m. local time each day.
Before he became regular on the Olympic scene, DiSanto was a standout rower at Harvard, collecting three varsity letters from 2010-12. During that three-year span, DiSanto was a three-time all-Ivy League selection, earning first-team accolades in 2010 and 2011, and helping the Crimson defeat Yale in the annual Harvard-Yale Regatta.
