CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's volleyball team will open its 2022 season with a trip to California for three matches over the next few days.
Harvard will kick off the season when it takes on No. 15 UC Irvine on Jan. 12 at 10 p.m. EST. This match marks the first competition for the Crimson in 683 days and the first time that the Crimson match up with the Anteaters in program history.
After a day off, the Crimson will be back in action Friday (Jan. 14) when it faces off with No. 10 UC San Diego at 10 p.m. EST. This will be the second match between the two schools with the Tritons earning a four-set victory in 2019.
There will be no spectators permitted at this event.
Finishing off the road trip, Harvard and No. 5 Long Beach State will meet for the seventh time dating back to 1998. The Crimson has been unsuccessful in its previous six matchups with Long Beach. The match will take place Saturday, Jan. 15, at 10 p.m. EST.
What to Know
- The Crimson welcomes eight first-year athletes to the team this season.
- Seniors Buddy Scott and Jason Shen will be captaining the Crimson for the 2022 season.
- Harvard returns Campbell Schoenfeld who led the team with 186 kills in the shortened 2020 season.
- The Crimson also brings back senior Eric Li who led all returners with 87 digs, as well as sophomore Ethan McCrary with a team-high 34.0 blocks in 2020.

Brian Baise enters his 14
th season at the helm of the Harvard men's volleyball program. Baise holds a 130-119 record during his time in Cambridge, including five top-three EIVA Tournament finishes in the past 10 years and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018.
