BALTIMORE, Md. – Five Harvard men's lacrosse first-years have been ranked among the top collegiate freshmen lacrosse players on the Inside Lacrosse Power 100 Incoming Freshmen Rankings. The list contains the top 100 freshmen in collegiate lacrosse.
Annually, Inside Lacrosse releases its Power 100 rankings as a view of the incoming freshmen predicted to make an impact in NCAA Division I Lacrosse. For 2022, the Power 100 list was pushed to the spring to allow for more information given the uniqueness of the athletes' last two years. Players who were originally members of the Class of 2020 but did not enroll last year are included in the Class of 2021 rankings.
Topping the list for the Crimson is defenseman
Jake Brownley, who was ranked 30th on the list. The Glenmoore, Pa. native comes to Harvard after lettering and starting for four years at Malvern Prep. In 2021, Brownley was named a U.S. Lacrosse All-American, Under Armour All-American and Nike Senior All-American. A captain his senior year at Malvern, Brownley received All-State, All-Area and All-League First Team honors in 2021.
Midfielder
Andrew Perry ranks No. 38 on the list for the Crimson. Hailing from nearby Franklin, Mass., Perry joins the Crimson after lettering and starting for three years at Xaverian Brothers High School and one year at Moses Brown. Along with Brownley, Perry was also named a U.S. Lacrosse All-American and Under Armour All-American in 2021, as well as a Nike National All-Star. After captaining the team his senior year, Perry received All-State and All-Division First Team honors.
Owen Gaffney ranks 46th on the list for Harvard. A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Gaffney arrives in Cambridge after lettering and starting for four years at Loyola High School. A two-time captain, Gaffney was named the CIF Southern Section Player of the Year in 2021. Adding more accolades under his belt, the first-year also received USL All-American, Nike All-American and Adrenaline All-American honors in 2021.
At No. 63 on the list,
Joe Dowling makes an appearance for the Crimson. The Greenwich, Conn. native joins the Crimson after lettering for four years at Deerfield. Dowling served as captain of his undefeated, nationally No. 1 ranked lacrosse team at Deerfield in 2021, and was the team leader in points in 2019 and 2021.
Rounding out the list for the Crimson,
Miles Botkiss ranks No. 83. Botkiss arrives in Cambridge from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. after lettering for four years at Torrey Pines. A captain and team MVP, Botkiss led Torrey Pines to back-to-back CIF championships. Botkiss was a First Team All-CIF and All-Avocado selection, while part of a team that was ranked No. 16 and No. 17 in the nation in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
