CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's fencing team (11-2) won in dominating fashion, taking down the No.1 ranked Division III team New York University, 21-6, on Friday night, Jan. 28, at the Malkin Athletic Center.
The match, which was originally slated to take place on Saturday, was moved up a day to get in front of winter storm Kenan that was set to hit the Greater Boston area.
The Crimson gave up no ground on the evening, winning each of the 21 bouts they competed in, rolling out just one fencer in
Veronica Czyzewski for the sabre squad.
Czyzewski is the lone senior on the Crimson, and in her last home competition she posted a 3-0 bout record with a +6-touch differential.
The Crimson epee squad tallied a 9-0 showing with
Claire Beddingfield holding a +9-touch differential, sophomore
Greta Candreva recording a +8-touch differential and first-year
Emily Vermeule posting a +5-touch differential.
Harvard's foil team went 9-0 on the night as well, led by first-year
Lauren Scruggs who continued her year of success. Scruggs went 3-0 on the night with a +12-touch differential, allowing three points across her bouts.
Junior
Cynthia Liu went 2-0 on the evening, while
Annora Lee,
Karina Wang,
Christina Gong and
Ever Marinelli all picked up wins as well.
