Cambridge, Mass. - The Harvard men's and women's cross country teams sent athletes to compete at two meets on Friday, Oct. 14. Athletes raced at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in New York, N.Y. and at the Nuttycombe Invite in Madison, Wis. The women's team placed fifth of 34 teams in the ECAC 6k and the men's team placed eighth of 31 teams in the IC4A 8k. In Wisconsin, the women's team placed 29th of 36 teams in the 6k and the men's team placed 21st of 33 teams in the 8k.
The Crimson were lead by sophomore Ella Gilson in New York, as she took seventh in 21:28.3 in the women's 6k in the ECAC Championship race. She was followed by sophomore Marianne Mihas in 13th with a time of 21:43.9. Rounding out the Crimson team were Moly Malague in 22nd, Shaked Leibovitz in 57th, Zoe Cooper in 90th and Cristina Demeo in 138th. The team scored 187 points, just two points behind Ivy League competitor Cornell in fourth and beating out Ivy competitors Princeton, Yale and Columbia.
On the men's side, sophomore Reed Pryor led the team in New York, finishing 37th in the 8k with a time of 25:02.7. He was followed by sophomore Noah Ward in 49th in 25:20.0. Rounding out the scoring positions for the Crimson were Sameer Das in 52nd, Pierce Cousins in 70th and Ben Shryock in 101st. The team finished with 279 points to take eighth.
After a seventh place finish last week, Maia Ramsden stayed consistent, taking seventh place at the Nuttycombe Invite to lead the Harvard women's team with a time of 20:04.5. She was followed by junior Maya Rayle in 105th with a time of 20:56.0. Rounding out the Crimson's five scoring positions were Isabelle Goldstein in 165th, Penelope Salmon in 191st and Kristin Otervik in 200th. The team placed 29th with a score of 653 points, beating out Princeton, the only other Ivy competitor at the race.
After a top-ten finish last week, Acer Iverson once again led the men's team with an eighth place finish in the men's 8k in 23:22.1. He was followed by sophomore Graham Blanks who finished in 26th place in 23:31.5. The three men rounding out the top five for Harvard were David Melville in 140th, Shane Brosnan in 179th and Vivien Henz in 194th. The team scored 538 points to take 21st place.
