No. 15/15 Men's Ice Hockey Hosts Brown, Yale This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After an opening weekend sweep of Dartmouth (W, 5-2) and Princeton (W, 4-2), No. 15/15 Harvard men's ice hockey (2-0-0, 2-0-0 ECACH) hosts Brown (1-1-0, 1-1-0 ECACH) and Yale (1-1-0, 1-1-0 ECACH) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center this weekend. On opening night against the Big Green, junior forward Alex Laferriere, the ECACH Forward of the Week, matched a career high with four points (two goals, two assist) to key a Harvard comeback from an early 2-0 deficit. On Saturday, it was sophomore Matthew Coronato's two third period goals that helped Harvard rally from a 2-1 third period deficit against the Tigers. Brown and Yale opened the season with a home-and-home series against each other, with Yale winning on Friday night (W, 2-0) in New Haven, and Brown earning the victory (W, 2-1) on Saturday in Providence.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Harvard is 11-2-1 in its last 14 games against Brown, but the Bears earned the victory (2-0) the last time the two teams met on Dec. 3, 2021. Brown lost its top 3 scorers from a season ago. Harvard is unbeaten in its last seven games (5-0-2) against Yale, winning both games in the series last season. Yale returns its top four scorers from a season ago led by Ian Carpentier (8-5-13). Junior Nathan Reid, who started 17 games in net last year, is also back.
  • Named for legendary Yale coach and former Harvard captain Tim Taylor '63, the Tim Taylor Award is given to the most outstanding player of the Harvard-Yale game played at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. The Crimson reached 20 wins for the 5th time in the Ted Donato era, and it was one of the hottest teams in the nation over the second half. Harvard went 12-3-2 over its final 17 games before the NCAA Tournament, which included a five-game stretch (3-1-1) in which Harvard was without U.S. Olympians Nick Abruzzese and Sean Farrell. In the ECACH Tournament, Harvard defeated RPI in the quarterfinal round in three games, including a Game 1 victory in which the Crimson scored three 6-on-5 goals.
