CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's swimming and diving team will head to The Land of 10,000 Lakes this week to compete at Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The meet is scheduled to run from Wednesday, Nov. 30-Saturday, Dec. 3, at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
What to Know
- Harvard steps out of dual-meet action for the first time in 2022-23, this after going 3-0 to begin the campaign. The Crimson opened the year with a double-dual win over Dartmouth and Cornell, before dispatching Columbia in its last outing on Nov. 18.
- Harvard defeated the Lions, 168-132, to claim its 16th straight decision over its Ivy League foe. The Crimson won nine events on the afternoon to hand the Lions their first defeat of 2022-23.
- Umitcan Gures tasted victory four times in the meet vs. Columbia, swimming the third leg of the victorious 200 medley relay (1:27.84) and the opening segment of the 200 free relay (1:20.54). The senior also captured the 50 free (season-best 20.46) and 100 fly (47.22).
- Will Grant enjoyed a successful afternoon against the Lions, winning three events. The junior won the 100 back (47.95), 200 back (season-best 1:45.09) and the 200 IM (1:49.31).
- Marcus Holmquist continued his strong start to his junior campaign, recording his best 200-free time of the year (1:37.37) and emerging with the 100-free title (44.41). He also swam the third leg of the aforementioned 200-free relay.
- This is the third straight season in which Harvard has appeared at the Minnesota Invitational, excluding 2020-21 due to the pandemic. Last season, Harvard recorded several NCAA qualifying times at the four-day invitational.

Harvard will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 18, when it makes the short ride south to Brown. The mid-week meet is scheduled for a noon ET start.
