CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's swimming and diving began its 2022-23 season with a 169-131 victory over Rutgers from the Big Ten on Friday night at Blodgett Pool.
Harvard totaled seven victories, 13 second-place showings, and nine third-place finishes to top the Scarlet Knights (1-1).
The Crimson recorded top-two finishes in the 200 free, 100 butterfly, and 200 IM, and had the top three finishes in three-meter diving. First-year
Anya Mostek won three events in her collegiate debut (200 free, 200 back, 200 IM).
In the diving portion of the meet,
Nina Janmyr took first in 3-meter diving with a score of 294.38, also placing third in one-meter diving.
Amy Wotovich had Harvard's top finish on the one-meter board at 282.68.
Harvard Highlights
- Harvard's Anya Mostek, Victoria Eisenhauer, Abby Carr, and Darlene Fung placed second in the 200-yeard medley relay (1:42.56), just .03 behind Rutgers.
- Anya Mostek won her first collegiate race in the 200 free (1.48.15). Senior Sofia Chichaikina took third place in the event (1:51.67).
- Addie Rose Bullock placed second in the 100 back (55.38), with Victoria Eisenhauer also taking second place in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.64), and Grace Yoon earning second place in 200 fly (2:03.10).
- Darlene Fung won the 50 free in 23.55, with Samantha Shelton taking third place (23.84).
- Nina Janmyr (294.38), Amy Wotovich (290.40), and Elizabeth Miclau (280.88) finished 1-2-3 in three-meter diving.
- Samantha Shelton won the 100 yard free in 50.92.
- Anya Mostek earned her second victory of the meet in the 200 back (1:57.71). Addie Rose Bullock finished third in 2:04.37.
- Harvard finished 2-3 in the 200 breaststroke with Kaia Li (2:17.17) and Aleksandra Denisenko (2:21.63) earning big points for the Crimson.
- Kate Hazlett (5:02.55) and Erin Cavanagh (5:03.13) finished 2-3 in the 500 yard free.
- Abby Carr won the 100 yard fly in 55.09, with Molly Hamlin placing second in 56.50.
- Anya Mostek won her third event of the night in 200 yard IM (2:02.74), with Kaia Li placing second in the event (2:05.13).
- Harvard is now 3-1 all-time against Rutgers.
Next Up
Harvard will travel to Brown next Friday, before heading up to Dartmouth to take on the Big Green and Cornell on Saturday.
