Men's Water Polo Closes Regular Season with Two Weekend Victories

CAMBRIDGE, Mass – No. 15 Harvard men's water polo closed its regular season by going 2-1 over a three-game weekend at Blodgett Pool. The Crimson opened the weekend by defeating St. Francis Brooklyn 15-10 on its senior day before winning another matchup against Iona College 15-9 on Saturday evening. Harvard sweeps the season series against both Iona and St. Francis Brooklyn. The win agasint Iona gave the Crimson its 10th victory at Blodgett Pool this season. The Crimson fell to No. 8 Princeton 10-7 in a close game on Sunday morning. 

The Crimson finish the regular season with a record of 19-8 (8-2 NWPC). 
  

Game 1: Harvard 15, St. Francis 11

How it Happened

  • James Rozolis-Hill and Kaleb Archer tallied the first two Crimson goals of the game as it was tied at 2-2 after the opening quarter. 
  • The Crimson offense exploded in the second quarter as Harvard scored five goals to give them a 7-5 lead at half. 
  • James Rozolis-Hill scored three goals in the third.
  • Stothart, Sonsini and Bucur all scored in the fourth quarter to close the victory. 

Game 2: Harvard 15, Iona 9

Harvard Highlights

  • James Rozolis-Hill had a fantastic game as the first year tallied seven goals in the victory.
  • Michael Sonsini, Mot Stothart and Alex Bucur both scored once. 
  • Alex Tsotadze tallied two assists and added two more goals to his season totals. 
  • Gabe Putnam scored his first goal since returning to the lineup. 
  • Alex James scored twice.
  • Owen Hale recorded another two steals to add to his defensive totals. 
  • Tanner Furtak made nine saves in the victory. The first-year remains undefeated in his collegiate career. 
 

How it Happened. 

  • Two goals by Rozolis-Hill helped give the Crimson a 3-2 lead after the first quarter. 
  • A five goal second quarter stretched the lead to 7-2 at the half. 
  • James Rozolis-Hill, Alex Tsotadze and Mot Stothart scored in the third to help make it 13-5 Crimson. 
  • Alex James added two goals in the fourth to seal the game for the Crimson. 

Game 3: Princeton 10, Harvard 7

Harvard Highlights

  • Gabe Putnam scored two goals in some key moments for the Crimson. 
  • James Rozolis-Hill added another hat-trick to his record breaking season. 
  • Michael Sonisni added two assists to his totals. 
  • Mot Stothart and Owen Hale both scored a goal each. 
  • Noah Hodge was spectacular in net as the senior made a season high 15 saves throughout the game. 

How it Happened:

  • James Rozolis-Hill scored the two Crimson goals as Harvard trailed 5-2 after the opening quarter.
  • Stothart and Putnam scored two goals in the second. 
  • James Rozolis-Hill scored the only goal for the Crimson in the third quarter. 

Next Up:

The Crimson will head to Providence Rhode Island for the NWPC playoffs. With seeding yet to be decided Harvard will have to wait to see what its playoff schedule will look like.
