Men's Swimming and Diving Continues Strong Showing on Day 2 of Minnesota Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Harvard men's swimming and diving continued competition at the Minnesota Invitational on Thursday night, as diving competition began, and swimming events continued at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

Harvard Highlights

  • In diving, the men won the team event (316.05), and were led by Luke Foster on the one-meter board, as Foster placed third (313.60).
  • Harvard's A (1:18.95) 200 free relay team recorded the top finish of the year in the event for the Crimson. Ryan Linnihan, Marcus Holmquist, David Greeley, and Anthony Rincon were on the A team.
  • Ryan Linnihan nearly broke the 20 second mark in his 50 free heat (20.01), recording the best preliminary time for the Crimson. Marcus Holmquist (20.11) placed fifth in the final heat, and Anthony Rincon won his heat and swam his fastest 50 free of the year (20.42). Holmquist would break the 20 second mark (19.96) in his final heat, with Linnihan (20.04) close behind.
  • In the final heat of the early session in the 500 free, with Harvard and Texas each sending four swimmers to the pool, Cole Kuster took fourth place with Harvard's fastest time of the year in the event (4:23.10). Shane Washart (4:23.88), Ben Littlejohn (4:29.32), and Noah Brune (4:30.93) also all swam season best marks. Littlejohn swam 4:24.15 in his final heat to record one of Harvard's best marks of the year in the event. Kuster (4:23.89) and Washart (4:26.57) also competed in the final heats
  • Gunner Grant matched the NCAA B standard in the 200 IM (1:46.52) and Quinn Harron won his heat in the 200 IM preliminaries (1:48.08). Jared Simpson also broke the 1:50 mark in the event (1:48.59), and Aayush Deshpande also had an impressive season debut in the 200 IM (1:49.56). Deshpande bettered his own time in the final (1:48.19) placing second in his heat. Harron also improved on his preliminary time in the final (1:47.78).
