FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Harvard women's fencing had another strong performance, going 4-1 at the Sacred Heart Invitational on Sunday, Dec. 4.
 
The Crimson started off the day against Vassar College. The Crimson's foil squad led the way, winning 9-0, propelling the Crimson to a 25-2 victory, tying their largest victory of the season.
 
The Crimson's second match of the day was highly contested. Two wins from sabre's Chloe Williams and Maria Theodore helped give the sabre squad a 5-4 win. However, the Crimson fell narrowly, 13-14, for their first loss of the season.
 
Harvard returned to their winning ways in their third match of the day against the hosts Sacred Heart University 20-7. Foil earned their second 9-0 of the day and their third of the season with three wins from Lauren Scruggs, Eileen Ye, and Karina Wang.
 
Up Next, the Crimson competed against Temple University, earning a hard fought 16-11 victory. Foil squad led the way in this match after Lauren Scruggs' three bought wins gave them a victorious score of 7-2 win.
 
Harvard finished off strong in another tight matchup against NYU. This time it was foil's Ever Marinelli who's three wins ensured Harvard's their 15-12 victory.
 

What to Know

• Harvard's 12-0 start to the season was their best start in franchise history.
• Their 12 game winning streak was their longest winning streak since the 2008-2009 season when they won 14 in a row.
• Lauren Scruggs has yet to lose a bout this season, after going 13-0 on the day which led the team in wins. She is now 36-0 on the season.
• Scruggs was recently named the number 1 ranked junior women's foil fencer in the world for the 2021-2022 season.
