NEW HAVEN, CT - Returning to its annual spring dual meet for the first time since 2019, Harvard swept Yale by scores of 87-62 (men) and 75-70 (women) for a successful afternoon at Dwyer Track.
In a close 4x100m race on the men's side Harvard's team - DeMarkes Stradford, Lance Ward, Oliver Murcko, Gregory Lapit – won in 40.85.
David Melville ran his personal best in the 3000m steeplechase to win the event in 9:10.05, the eighth fastest time in school history.
First year Shaked Leibovitz set her collegiate best in the 3000m steeplechase, winning the event with the fourth fastest time in school history (10:45.79).
First-year Eden Finkelstein won the women's long jump on her first effort of the day, clearing 19'7 ½" (5.98m), tied for sixth all time in school history. Finkelstein also won the 200 meters in 24.08.
On the men's side in the long jump, Kyle Murphy also won for Harvard, clearing 23'-11 ½" (7.30m) on his fourth effort of the day.
In the discus throw, Estel Valeanu recorded her third top-3 finish (and first win) of the spring season, winning the event with a 172'Â (52.44m) effort. On the men's side, Samuel Welsh recorded his best throw of the spring season, reaching 186' (56.7m) on his final throw of the day to win the event.
Harvard also swept the javelin throw and hammer throw as Hannah McLaughlin and John Chilson picked up event wins in the javelin, and Kenneth Ikeji (206'3"; 62.87m) and Cammy Garabian (178'4"; 54.36m) were impressive in the hammer throw. Garabian's effort was the fifth best in school history.
Making his spring debut in the 400 meters, first-year Lance Ward won the event in 47.50, tied for ninth on the all-time school list.
Harvard swept the 100 meters on both the men's and women's side, as DeMarkus Stradford won in 10.48 and Tina Martin also took the top spot in the event in 11.65.
In the 800 meters, Anna Juul ran a personal best on the women's side, winning the event in 2:09.13.
In two one-on-one races in the 400m hurdles, Harvard prevailed, as Sharelle Samuel (1:00.34) won a close race for the women's team, while Peter Fischer (55.98) won the men's race.
Additionally, Matthew Pereira ran the fourth fastest 5,000 meters in school history, winning the event in 13:50.17.
Harvard will compete at two multi-team meets next weekend at Auburn (Apr. 15-16) and at UMass (Apr. 16).
