AT THE HELM
The Bolles-Parker Head Coach for Harvard Men's Heavyweight Crew,Â
Charley Butt, enters his ninth season as the leader of the Harvard Heavyweight Rowing team and his 37th season with the Harvard rowing program in 2021-22, having previously served as the Friends of Harvard Lightweight Rowing Coach for Men's Lightweight Crew for 28 years. In his time with the Heavyweights, Butt has compiled a record of 45-7 in the Spring and two top-three finishes at the IRA National Championships since taking over as the leader of the program.
Â
ABOUT THE CAPTAIN – GEORGE COZENS
George Cozens, the 151st Captain in Harvard rowing history, has been a key component in the success of his boats since arriving on campus in 2017. Cozens began his time at Newell as the coxswain of the second varsity boat, where he led the crew to a 5-2 record during the 2018 season. As a sophomore, the Banbury native took control of the first varsity crew and helped the boat post a 7-1 dual-race record in the 2019 season and a third-place finish at the IRA National Championships.
Â
This season, Cozens was elected captains by his peers, making him the first coxswain to earn the distinction under the Bolles-Parker Head Coach for Harvard Heavyweight Rowing,
Charley Butt. Cozens and his 1V crew overcame its two-plus year hiatus and have posted a 6-0 record in 2022, returning every cup back to its place in Newell Boathouse.
Â
Cozens as a Coxswain: 18-3 Overall, 13-1 (1V), 5-2 (2V)
