Men's Heavyweight Rowing Prepared for Eastern Sprints

Defending champions enter weekend ranked No. 4 in the country.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Harvard men's heavyweight rowing team competes at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday morning on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. The preliminary heats begin at 8 a.m. with the finals starting at 1 p.m. Al lraces will be streamed at Overnght.com.

EARC Sprint Regatta and Rowe Cup
• The first Eastern Sprints was held on the Charles River and won by Harvard in 1939. HUBC won the first four EARC Sprint Regattas before World War II paused the competition until 1946 when Wisconsin won the varsity race and was awarded the first Rowe Cup. A year later, Harvard won its fifth title and claimed its first Rowe Cup. All-time, the HUBC has won 34 titles and 35 Rowe Cups.
• Harvard's varsity eight took the gold medal with a time of 5:33.895; beating Dartmouth in a wire-to-wire victory. HUBC's second and third varsity also claimed victory on the day.
• Against Ivy League boats, Harvard has beaten Cornell (Apr. 4) in the Robinson Cup, Penn (Apr. 28) at the Adams Cup, but fell at home to Princeton (Apr. 18) in the Compton Cup.
• The varsity boat set a course record on the Charles River its last time out. Harvard retained the Smith Cup over Northeastern in a time of 5:28.21; the fastest ever on the Charles River basin.
