CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Women's Swimming and Diving opened its 2023-24 season on Friday with a 170-130 home victory over Brown. The victory was the first for
Amanda Kulik, The Costin Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Swimming & Diving, as she embarks on her first campaign at the helm of the program.
Harvard Highlights
- First-year Alexandra Bastone grabbed the first victory for the Crimson, winning the 1,000 free with a time of 10:06.79. Classmate Piper Wood Prince, meanwhile, turned in a runner-up effort of 10:08.89.
- The Alexandra Bastone-Piper Wood Prince combo was at it again, replicating their 1-2 performance in the 500 free. The former clocked in at 4:58.37, while the latter touched the pad less than a second later at 4:58.59.
- Sophomore Anya Mostek was a two-time winner, capturing the 200 free in 1:50.20, before snagging the 100 free with a time of 50.62.
- Two junior divers finished atop the leaderboard in the 1- and 3-meter competitions. Amy Wotovich tallied a score of 300.68, edging Remi Edvalson (294.90) for the 3-meter crown. Edvalson later won the 1-meter contest (289.20) ahead of runner-up Nina Janmyr (280.28).
- Sophomore Sydney Lu won the 100 fly, finishing the race in 54.46, and then swam the opening leg of the 400 free. She joined Isabella Alas, Addie Rose Bullock and Molly Hamlin as the quartet posted a winning time of 3:24.88.
- First-year Stephanie Iannaccone pocketed the first victory of her career, claiming the 200 IM in 2:03.27, which was nearly four seconds better than second-place finisher Anna Podurgiel (2:07.25).
- The Crimson (1-0; 1-0 Ivy League) defeated Brown (0-1; 0-1 Ivy) for the 21st straight time and improved to 37-9 all-time vs. the Bears.
- Harvard won its third straight lidlifter after taking down Rutgers in each of the last two seasons.
- The Crimson won its first dual meet in the month of October. Today's contest is the earliest Harvard has ever competed.
