WHAT TO KNOW
  • Harvard took home three major Ivy awards yesterday as Sage Piekarski, Bronte May Brough, and Tjerk van Herwaarden were recognized for their contributions this season. Coach van Herwaarden won his fourth Ivy Coach of the Year while Bronte-May Brough won Defensive Player of the Year, and first-year Sage Piekarski earned Co-Rookie of the Year Honors. Piekarski and Brough were also named to the All-Ivy First Team.
  • 2023 marks the second season in a row that Harvard has won the Rookie of the Year award after Brough won the accolade last season.
  • Joining Brough and Piekarski on the first team were Emily Guckian and Kitty Chapple who both had tremendous seasons in 2023. Guckian sported a ten-game point streak at one point this season while Chapple is the team leader in minutes played.
  • Rounding out Ivy recognition is Avery Donahue who was named to the second team while Kate Oliver, Tessa Shahbo, and Lara Beekhuis all received honorable mentions.
  • Harvard welcomes Penn to Berylson Field in the first round of the Ivy tournament. The Crimson defeated Penn two weeks ago on its senior night after a 2-0 victory to clinch at least a share of the Ivy title.
  • Goals from Sage Piekarski and Lara Beekhuis and a fifth consecutive shutout from Tessa Shahbo helped Harvard win its third second Ivy Championship in three years.
  • Harvard followed up its big win on home field with a buzzer-beater to defeat the nationally ranked Big Red in Ithaca a week later.
  • Lara Beekhuis scored both goals for the Crimson, including the goal with two seconds left on the clock to clinch sole hosting and title rights for Harvard.
  • The win over Ivy rival Cornell capped off an undefeated conference season for Harvard and was its eighth consecutive win. Harvard last went undefeated in conference play in 2021.
  • This season's .812 winning percentage is higher than eight of the last ten seasons.
  • Harvard has allowed one goal since Oct.6 and has outscored opponents 19-1 over that span.
  • The Crimson have four ranked wins this season.
  • Harvard has stayed in the top 15 on the NFHCA rankings all season but got as high as No. 9 after winning the Ivy League title.
  • The NCAA RPI rankings have Harvard at No. 10 prior to the weekend tournament.
