Women's Fencing Finishes Western Invitational With Wins Against Air Force, North Carolina

US AIR FORCE ACADEMY, CO. – Harvard women's fencing wrapped up its time at the Western Invitational with two convincing victories against tournament host Air Force and North Carolina. The Crimson leave the Rockies with a 6-1 record, the lone loss against three-time defending NCAA national champions Notre Dame.
 
Five women fencers posted perfect 6-0 records on day two of the Western Invitational. Faith Park, Isabella Chin, Jessica Guo, Lauren Scruggs, and Zoe Kim all won every match they fought on Sunday morning. Women's foil went 17-1 on the final day of the Western Invitational, losing a single match against North Carolina.
 
In the first round against Air Force, women's foil posted a perfect 9-0 record, as the trio of Guo, Scruggs, and Lee impressed against the Falcons. On the other strip, women's epee logged a 7-2 record, as Park and Chin combined to go 6-0 against the tournament hosts.
 
The Crimson faced the Tar Heels in its Western Invitational finale, beating North Carolina, 21-6. The foil and epee squads both finished 8-1, as women's saber edged the Tar Heels, 5-4, behind two wins from Chloe Williams and a perfect showing from Kim.
 
Harvard women's fencing fought a total of 188 matches at the Western Invitational, winning 116 of them. Women's foil led the way in wins, tallying 47. The epee team also contributed 44 match wins, with saber adding 25. The women's team scored 20 or more wins in a match twice at the Western Invitational, against Air Force and North Carolina.
 
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Five fencers posted perfect 6-0 records against Air Force and North Carolina (Chin, Guo, Kim, Park, Scruggs).
  • Women's foil led the team with 17 wins on Sunday and 47 win across both days of competition.
  • The women's team won 116 matches at the Western Invitational.
