CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's swimming and diving team will look to defend its Ivy League crown when it competes at the Ivy Championships this week in Princeton, New Jersey. The conference meet is scheduled to commence at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and conclude on Saturday, Feb. 18, with all four days airing on ESPN+.
Day one on Wednesday begins at 6 p.m. ET with the timed finals of the 200 medley and 800 medley relays. Thursday-Saturday will feature preliminary heats at 11 a.m. ET, with the finals to follow starting at 6 p.m. ET.
What to Know
- The Crimson is in search of its second straight Ivy title after capturing the crown in 2022 at Blodgett Pool. Harvard won the meet with 1,503.5 points, finishing ahead of runner-up Yale (1,258).
- Harvard has won the Ivy championship 15 times, finishing on the top step in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1994, 1996, 2005, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2022.
- Stephanie Wriede Morawski '92, The Costin Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Swimming & Diving, The Ragatz Family Harvard Women's Coach of Excellence, has led the Crimson to eight Ivy titles (2005, 2009, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2022). The '22 championship marked Harvard's fifth in the last eight competition seasons (2021 canceled due to pandemic).
- Harvard is returning to action for the first time since Jan. 29, when it fell to Yale (210-90) and Princeton (212-88), snapping its six-meet winning streak. The Crimson finished the regular season at 6-2 (5-2 Ivy).
- Harvard's results at the HYP meet have not affected its performance historically at the Ivy League Championships. In the Crimson's last four title-winning seasons (2016, 2018, 2019, 2022), it dropped decisions to both Yale and Princeton in three of them ('16, '18, '22). In 2019, Harvard beat the Tigers and fell to the Bulldogs.
