Radcliffe Lightweight Rowing Set to Face Bates on Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Radcliffe women's lightweight rowing returns to Cambridge this Saturday for race against Bates College. Racing begins early Saturday morning. 

What to Know 

  • The Black and White return to the Charles River after an impressive showing at the Knecht Cup. 
  • On Saturday, Radcliffe finished first in the women's double heat, finished first in the women's varsity four heat , and second place in the women's varsity eight heat as the team moved onto day two.
  • On Sunday the Black and White started the day with a first-place finish in the 2x final after defeating BU A,B,C, and D and Gordon. The pair of Sophie Campbell and Isabel Mehta led the race from start to finish and improved from last year's fourth-place finish. 
  • In the 8+ Grand Final, Radcliffe raced to a fifth-place finish after doubling up and racing against multiple openweight boats. The Black and White closed the gap on Boston University from the Beanpot and improved from a tenth-place finish last season to a fifth place finish this season.
  • Last season, Radcliffe won both races by sizable margins against Bates with the first varsity eight for the Black and White posting a time of 6:58.9 to win the race by more than five seconds.
  • This will be the final race on the Charles this season for the Black and White and the last race before the Eastern Sprints.

Radcliffe heads to Worcester next Saturday for the Eastern Sprints.
