CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The 2023 Ivy League champion Crimson softball team earned a grand total of 12 Ivy League awards for the 2023 season, highlighted by
Riley Flynn as Ivy Rookie of the Year, four first-team honorees and three second-team selections. Harvard had more athletes recognized than any other Ivy League school.
Flynn was named rookie of the year after a successful first-year campaign with the Crimson. The pitcher finished the season with a 3-1 record in conference play to go with three saves. She appeared in 12 Ivy League games and started five. Flynn also finished the conference season with a league-leading 1.71 ERA, while racking up three Ivy Rookie-of-the-Week accolades.
Four Crimson athletes were named First-Team All-Ivy:
Madi Mays at first base,
Trina Hoang at shortstop,
Megan Welsh at outfield and
Finley Payne as designated player. Mays and Welsh were previously named Ivy League Players of the Week, while Payne earned rookie-of-the-week honors earlier this season.
Harvard brought home three Second-Team All-Ivy honors as well: Flynn at pitcher,
Kendall Jean at second base and
Lauren Bobowski at outfield.
The Crimson also boasted three Ivy League Honorable Mention selections in
Anna Reed (pitcher),
Allison Heffley (catcher) and
Savannah Fitzpatrick (outfield).
One Ivy League softball student-athlete from each institution was recognized for their commitment in the classroom and in sport as members of the 2023 Ivy League Softball Academic All-Ivy team.
Brianna Jewett was named as Harvard's representative on the Academic All-Ivy team.
