Track and Field Hopes for Outdoor Titles at Ivy League Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard Track and Field teams will head back to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in the 2023 Outdoor Ivy League Heptagonal Championships from Saturday, May 6 to Sunday, May 7. Both days of competition will air on ESPN+ from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Saturday's competition will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's hammer throw and decathlon and feature field event finals and running event trials until the conclusion of the 10,000m runs at 8:40 p.m. The meet will resume on Sunday at 10 a.m. with remaining events in the heptathlon and decathlon and run until the conclusion of the men's 4x400 meter relay, set to begin at 4:15 p.m. Following the final events, an awards ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. 

What to Know

• Crimson athletes last competed at the Penn Relays meet, where hammer throwers Stephanie Ratcliffe and Kenneth Ikeji set new school records, meet records and brought home first place trophies. Ratcliffe's throw also set an Ivy League record.
• At the 2022 Ivy League Outdoor Championships, both the men's and women's teams finished second behind Penn (women's) and Princeton (men's). Both teams had five individual event champions. 
• The Crimson women's team took first place at the 2023 Ivy League Indoor Championships while the men's team took second behind Princeton by one point. Across both teams, Harvard had 16 individual champions. 
• The Crimson currently have four athletes who rank in the top 10 in the nation in Ratcliffe (second, hammer throw), Ikeji (third, hammer throw), Alexander Kolesnikoff (second, shot put) and Izzy Goudros (eighth, heptathlon). 
• Per the USTFCCA, the Harvard men's team ranks 23rd in the nation and the women's team ranks 31st. Both teams rank first in the Northeast Region and both teams are projected to finish first in the Ivy League Championships. 

Up Next

Following the conference championships, Crimson athletes with qualifying marks or times will next compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Round from May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla. where they will hope to earn a spot at the NCAA Championship meet in June.
