Evan Nelson and
Denham Wojcik are set to serve Harvard University men's basketball as captains during the 2023-24 season,
Tommy Amaker, The Thomas G. Stemberg '71 Family Endowed Coach for Harvard Men's Basketball, announced on Thursday.
Nelson played in all 28 games with 26 starts in 2022-23, starting the last 26 games of the season. He averaged 8.4 points, 3.4 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 28.9 minutes per game, while shooting 38.8 percent from 3-point distance and 81.0 percent from the free throw line. Nelson ranked third in the Ivy League in assists per game (3.4) and in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7). He scored in double figures eight times, while leading the team in assists per game (3.4) and 3-point percentage (.388).
Wojcik has played in 41 career games with 12 career starts despite missing part of the 2022-23 season due to injury. He appeared in all 26 games during the 2021-22 campaign, ranking second on the team in steals (25) and third in assists (38). As a first-year, he posted six points and four steals in 37 minutes at Iona (Nov. 13), tallied six points and six rebounds at Columbia (Jan. 15), and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds at Dartmouth (Jan. 17).
In 2022-23, Harvard posted a record of .500 or better for the 13
th time in the last 14 competitive seasons.
