LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the second year in a row, the Harvard Crimson Men's Lacrosse program achieved the highest cumulative team GPA in the nation. The Crimson posted a 3.71 team GPA in the classroom over the course of the 2022-23 academic year, giving them the top mark among Division I schools, as announced by The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) and Blatant Lacrosse this week.
Continuing to display the program's commitment to academics, Harvard men's lacrosse has improved its cumulative team GPA in every term over the past two academic years.
"This recognition speaks to the quality of student-athletes that we have in our program and their fundamental respect for the totality of the 'Harvard Experience'," said The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Lacrosse,
Gerry Byrne. "The commitment to their intellectual development began with their parents, bloomed via grammar schoolteachers and was cemented by high school instructors and coaches who imparted its importance."
The Crimson showed incredible improvement this year, despite earning the top Team GPA award in both seasons. Harvard's cumulative mark rose by more than 15-percentage points, jumping from 3.54 to 3.71 in 2022-23. This improvement helped the Crimson earn the top mark over all 72 other DI programs.
"I am proud to coach these young men as athletes to assist them in becoming the teammates, players, thinkers and future leader they dream to be," added Byrne.
The news comes after six players were just announced to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's (NEILA) All-Academic Team last week.
Hayden Cheek,
Isaiah Dawson,
Tommy Joyce,
Nick Loring,
Chase Strupp and
Chase Yager made up the group that was honored for their hard work in the classroom by the NEILA.
